28 pounds is too heavy for a saddle?
I've been watching way chairs. None of them meet all my needs, besides being ugly! I also wanted a saddle that could run on barrels in some local events. I found a chair, I love it. The only problem is weighs 28 pounds. I'm a little heavier, so with the self, the chair and pillow, the horse was making somewhere around 240 pounds. I look extra chair light, so you have to take a little less, or is that okay? I do lots of riding, for longer periods sometimes too.
Most good quality work and saddles are heavier chairs that show – usually over 30 pounds. Lighter seats tend to have more thin leather and are not as good quality. 28 pounds is not too heavy unless you intend to buy a racehorse. If you are heavy, just be sure to mount well and are well balanced. A heavy, balanced rider will be less problematic than a slight, unbalanced rider. Choose a horse that is quite robust, and keep way to do what you're wanting to do.
