"I can train my horse to do both English and Western?
I have a mare 6 years old quarter horse and she is a great track horses. But I want to start English and Western riding. Will it ruin her? It's a bad idea? My sister said she saw a horse in all I had to do was change bit. I can use a copper ring D steak, if I changed it out to ride English, what should I use? please help!
If you are talking single horse materials English and Western pleasure – you should have no problem, since both are quite similar, especially in English asking the horse to stretch and cover more ground. If you are seriously thinking of jumping, which could interfere with Western as more of a drastic change in the way to go, drive, and transportation. It tends to make the hottest horse that would be a challenge to bring back to the slow pace and relaxed western pleasure. As far as bits — The ring D is well for English, unless you do a dressage competition (can not be copper). Finally, you would use a sidewalk to West, but do not want to just up and change your bit because it takes a while for a horse to be conditioned to carry a sidewalk. (And no need for an articulated "halt" Spike — this only may be uncomfortable, you'll want a real slow when you're ready) You need to have full auto transport and curb the neck before doing this. For the moment, for Western work, you might consider training a fork — it does not require a headset, but will give a bit more leverage when needed and encourage the horse to relax his neck, while also preparing some of the sidewalk. You could use their bit English with this. Eventually she will have to point which can only share bits, but this takes much training and conditioning – is the end product, not where to begin. And yet, the sidewalk should be used with enough moderation. Is to give an extra touch of refinement and flexion. Many successful coaches use WP especially the steak and the holder of training, the curb to be a little more limited for maintaining the sensitivity and adds extra polish.
