Zappa Resources (TSX.V: ZPA) is a junior resource company with projects in Canada, U.S. and now, Tunisia. In early March 2007, Zappa signed a letter of intent to enter into a "farm-in participation agreement" with oil Pennine the oil concession in Tunisia Jorf property. The opportunity, said Gerry Albert, President and CEO, has "big elephant" potential that has captured the enthusiasm powered investors and stock Zappa, who was at least ten cents per share in February, twenty-two cents per share today.
The agreement Zappa involved prepay $ 250,000 to pay their share of a seismic program, while paying 15% of the drilling and development costs. In return, Zappa receives 10% of the interest that the structure of the first identified drillable Jorf permit, and has the option of farming in all structures drillable later on the same terms. The license, which includes 989,267 acres in south central Tunisia, is held by the Alberta Energy Inc. Cygam under business of its subsidiary, Rigo Oil Company Ltd., which is the operator of Tunisia.
Based on the analysis of Chapman Petroleum Engineers, Gerry explains " why this particular oil is so exciting target is the Permian reef. Only two other known Permian reefs in the world and both are producers oil and with a great big book. They are both in the category of one billion barrels of reserves. Therefore, this may be another. The reef is about 1000 meters thick in some places. Refers to the reefs in the basin of West Texas and the northern Caspian Sea fields in Khazakhstan, representing oil reserves large.
Entering the new Tunisian oil exploration market was a boon for Zappa. "What we do is to ride the coattails of a experienced company that has been there. Through an introduction by Pennine, we partner with Cygam and its operating company in Tunisia Rigo. You save lot of time and money to keep these relationships and to pay a premium of 15% to earn 10%. Through this partnership Zappa can operate in an environment with excellent potential like Tunisia, which would otherwise be out of range for a junior company.
According to Gerry, who believes in capitalizing on the opportunities sound economic, Tunisia is home to significant known reserves of oil and gas, and ideally suited to exploring the philosophy of Zappa. "Tunisia is relatively hot in the market for exploration of oil and gas fields. It has gone from an insignificant amount of [known] oil and gas to a significant amount, in a very short period of time because it overlooked the country. [In the past] were not known oil fields in Algeria and Libya on either side [in Tunisia] and there was no incentive to explore in those countries. The Tunisian Ministry of oil and gas exploration (ETAP) developed a strategic plan and the country has attracted many foreign oil companies. "According to Gerry, the Tunisian government is actively seeking partners with the oil companies to find success oil in their country.
Also important is the pipeline that already crosses the Jorf permit, so if Zappa is successful, the operator can use the pipe to carry its oil and gas market. Existing pipelines have the capacity to transport oil to tankers or use the Transmed to offer in the market Europe.
Gerry said that property in Tunisia is possibly a huge reserve deserves a lot of money, but costs are the same to develop as a small reserve. Zappa is the confidence that they have the experience and connections to raise enough money to stay in Tunisia, where necessary, so they might also put their money for something big. Gerry explains, "You can spend the same amount of money in reserve to produce one hundred barrels per day and has reserves total of two or three million barrels. The Jorf permit could be half a billion barrels or more. "Gerry hopes that this is the kind of opportunity that creates a company during the night. He says Zappa will know more in late July after they have begun drilling. With that kind of potential that you can see why he speaks in terms elephants.
