Can someone answer my questions for barrel racing?
It has never been a horse owner, but now I will come soon. I want to race barrels, but despite this being the first time to own a horse, I am determined to train one on my own. I barrel raced a little fun, but just a show at the Lope more and I've been riding a bit for a few years enough to know what I'm doing. I have many skills to work Barrel Racing and go slow and make sure the horse is so flexible, I would get the Clinton Anderson videos barrel racing and I know I would be able to follow. I want to know if is possible for a horse racing in western pleasure to be trained to barrel race? I found a beautiful paint horse that I also I want to compete in Western pleasure, and who is trained to do, but might be able to train in the barrel racing if I wanted?
As a barrel racer myself for over 15 years, I will tell you something that is not going to like it. Do not buy a horse with the intention of training as well. If you are not an experienced pilot barrel, you need to get a horse that will teach you how to run barrels. You will not be able to help your horse along the barrel racing in the world unless to pay a broker to train professional barrel horse. All you will succeed in doing is (at most) the creation of a mediocre game day on horseback. This is not an encouragement of their riding skills. This is not degrading their skills. This is to be honest. I have trained and given lessons for horses and riders per barrel for years. I have experienced the Horse Show come to me needing to learn to barrel race for all awards and are surprised by their lack of ability to run barrels. spend the money to buying a finished barrel horse. If this horse is 18 years old who is very good. You only need a couple of years in an experienced horse so that you can then go buy the youngest you want. Or find one to rent. Lots there.
